1. Amber Elliot of Alderwood Studio - Amber is the modern quilt designer behind Alderwood Studio. She’s been sewing for most of her life, and always loved the freedom of creating her own quilt designs. Her designs tend to blend organic elements with geometric motifs to create contemporary designs that fit in with a modern home's decor. Much of her inspiration comes from nature, and she loves to mix landscape concepts with modern, graphic blocks to create unique designs.

After ten years as a software engineer, she is now focusing completely on quilt pattern design and education. She also runs the Modern Makes Membership and subscription box, and teaches the Pattern Writing Academy. She resides in Portland, Oregon with her husband, and two small children.

2. Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter - Amy is a wife, mom, quilter, and fabric lover. She’s been sharing her quilting projects, tutorials, and other adventures at her blog Diary of a Quilter for 16 years. She is also an author, teacher, and fabric designer for Riley Blake Designs. When she’s not quilting she loves to go outside in her native Utah mountains.

3. Brooke Shankland of Eudaimonia Studio - Brooke is the designer and maker behind Eudaimonia Studio, which she founded to join her passions for philosophy and modern quilting. Having picked up sewing in 2016, she was quickly captivated by the many steps of the quilting process, and soon after began creating her own designs.Each design she sketches is inspired by her search to answer the ancient question of what it means to live well and make the most of life. Through her both academic and personal study of secular philosophies—such as Stoicism, Humanism, Buddhism, Transcendentalism, among others—Brooke crafts simple, meaningful designs that are imbued with centuries of wisdom for purpose and human flourishing. Brooke lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with her partner and spunky dog, Ace, where they enjoy all the outdoor activities the mountains have to offer. Having studied Economics, Philosophy and Social Enterprise, Brooke genuinely enjoys the multiple dimensions of running a small, creative business and aspires to make an impact through art that focuses on common humanity, mindfulness and well-being.

4. Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs - Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs is a chemical engineer specializing in intellectual property for technical textiles. She combines her technical background and love of quilting to create quilt patterns with clear instructions and strong geometric designs for her quilt pattern design company, Meadow Mist Designs. Cheryl is the author of three quilting books: Just Two Charm Pack Quilts (2023), Just One Charm Pack Quilts (2021), and Modern Plus Sign Quilts (2018), all published by Stash / C&T Publications.


MIDDLE ROW (left to right)

1. Emily Dennis of Quilty Love - Emily is an enthusiastic quilter and business owner who enjoys the many challenges that comes with doing both. She lives in Southern Minnesota with her husband and four kids. When not sewing you will find her doing the soccer mom thing, taking road trips and trying to keep everyone fed and happy.

2. Erin Nichole of Mija Handmade - Erin quilts along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado with her husband and two cats, Annapurna and Charlie. She’s recently jumped head first into sewing curves and designing her own curve templates - it all started with a desire to make her own double wedding ring pattern. Now Erin runs the Learning Curves Block of the Month. A low pressure way to learn curves, her BOM introduces quilters to a new, curvy quilt block each month. She’s also on a mission to work through her fabric stash! She wrote the Sparks Fly pattern after seeing how many untouched FQs she had laying around! When she’s not quilting, she’s touring museums and finding quilt themed humor in classical art. Check out her museum tours in her Instagram highlights.

3. Holly Clarke of Holly Clarke Designs - Holly is a graphic designer and modern quilter from Winnipeg, Canada. She has been sewing since the late '90s when she studied fine arts and graphic design in University. When Holly is designing quilts, she loves to find creative new ways to combine shapes, colour, and geometry. Holly writes her patterns to be easy to read and follow so that even a beginner quilter can understand and improve their skills while creating something beautiful to be loved and cherished. Holly has designed more than two dozen quilt patterns, and has worked with Riley Blake Designs, PBS Fabrics, Camelot Fabrics, Figo Fabrics, and is a brand ambassador for PFAFF sewing machines.

4. Julie Cefalu of The Crafty Quilter - Julie is a quilter, teacher, pattern designer and quilting correspondent (aka blogger). She's also a wife, mom and grandma who loves to read, hike, garden and cook. Julie says the only thing more important than quilting, is spending time with her family.

5. Kirsty Cleverly of Bonjour Quilts - Kirsty has been blogging at Bonjour Quilts for 14 years, and producing quilt patterns for a decade. She loves bright and bold contemporary style quilts, and all her patterns are very achievable thanks to clear instructions and plenty of diagrams. 1. Sarah Ruiz of Sarah Ruiz Quilts - Sarah is a quilter and aerospace engineer from Houston, TX. Her creative and technical sides have always been intertwined, from drawing Disney characters and memorizing constellations as a kid to taking humans back to the moon and dreaming up new quilts today. Quilting perfectly combines her engineering and artistic mindsets, and she loves the puzzle-solving required to turn an idea into reality. Her quilts feature bright colors, bold lines, and graphic shapes that are easy to make but pack a visual punch.

2. Sylvia Raschella of Sylvia Raschella - Sylvia Raschella is a quilt pattern designer based in Los Angeles. She started quilting in 2013 with the help of her great grandmother and quickly fell in love with the craft. Sylvia loved the idea of combining her graphic design background with her passion for quilting and, In 2021, she released her first quilt pattern. Her work has been featured in Love Patchwork and Quilting Magazine and Art Gallery Fabrics Lookbooks.

3. Vickeidy Plybon of Sewspicious LLC - Vickeidy is the creator behind Sewspicious. She is a high school Spanish teacher and a fourth-generation sewist. Vickeidy didn't start sewing until late into her 20s, but she fell in love with quilting and started designing her own patterns in 2022. She lives in NYC with her husband, Kevin, and their two kids and a bunch of sewing machines!

4. Yvonne Fuchs of Quilting Jetgirl - Yvonne, founder of Quilting Jetgirl, is a former aerospace engineer turned modern quilter, designer, and technical editor. She was introduced to quilting by her paternal grandmother in high school when her grandmother offered to hand quilt a twin-size quilt to use in her college dorm room if Yvonne made the quilt top. Now, 30 years later, Yvonne has developed a style that bridges her technical background and love of bold color, specializing in transparency color play and bold, geometric designs. Yvonne’s award winning quilts have been featured in numerous national and international magazines, quilt shows, and the book Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century. Yvonne’s goal is to help bridge gaps so you can achieve new skills. With a bit of scaffolding and practice, it’s amazing to see how we can all learn and grow.
