1. Amber is a modern pattern designer, author, fabric designer, and educator. She runs the Modern Makes Membership, teaches technique and pattern writing courses, and releases modern patterns under the Alderwood Studio brand. She designs fabric for Riley Blake Designs, and draws inspiration for both her fabric and her quilt patterns from the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Amber lives in Portland with her two small children and enjoys gardening, painting, and knitting in her free time.
2. Quiltmaking is Ben Millett's creative outlet outside his work at an agriculture company in Des Moines, Iowa. He employs personal color palettes in quilts to examine nuances of Queer identity, pop culture, and quiltmaking itself. Turning digital concepts into a physical reality with fabric and thread, he creates to play, to communicate ideas, to further the gay agenda, to make what he wants to see. His work has been exhibited around the world and is held in private collections.
3. Cheryl (Meadow Mist Designs) is a chemical engineer specializing in intellectual property for technical textiles. She combines her technical background and love of quilting to create quilt patterns with clear instructions and strong geometric designs for her quilt pattern design company, Meadow Mist Designs. Cheryl is the author of three quilting books: Just Two Charm Pack Quilts (2023), Just One Charm Pack Quilts (2021), and Modern Plus Sign Quilts (2018), all published by Stash / C&T Publications.
4. Julie is the creative mind behind Running Stitch Quilts designing modern quilt patterns. Though she mostly quilts using traditional methods, she dabbles in improv quilting and even wrote a book about her improv quilting journey, Imperfect: Embracing Improv Quilting. When she is not quilting, she is reading or exploring her current duty station in Kansas.

1. Kirsty began quilting in 2009 and Bonjour Quilts (the blog and online quilt pattern shop) was born several years later. The blog is full of handy techniques and quilt block tutorials, as well as colour scheme ideas for beginners and seasoned quilters alike. 2. Mitzie Schafer is a modern quilt designer, teacher, and founder of Jittery Wings Quilt Co., where she encourages and supports quilters of all experience levels to embrace color, try new techniques, and spark their creativity. Known for her innovative Color Flow theory and signature “controlled improv” style, Mitzie curates fabric bundles and designs patterns that help quilters build confidence in fabric selection and design.
Based in Newberry, SC, Mitzie works from her private studio and leads inspiring in‑person retreats that encourage both beginners and seasoned quilters to stretch their creative wings. She brings the heart of a teacher to every aspect of Jittery Wings. With a background in nonprofit leadership and coaching, she approaches her work with clarity, encouragement, and a passion for making the quilting world more accessible and encouraging. Whether guiding someone through their first quilt or helping a quilter rediscover joy in the process, Mitzie’s mission is simple: #MakeNewQuilters and keep the tradition alive through modern expression.
When she’s not quilting, Mitzie is a partner with GSB Fundraising and the author of Tell Stories Your Donors Can’t Ignore.
3. Nicole Moore is a modern quilt pattern designer, educator, and the creative force behind Sew Much Moore. Known for transforming traditional quilt blocks with bold colors, clean layouts, and negative space, Nicole designs patterns that help quilters finish beautiful projects with confidence. Her work has been featured in national publications, and she regularly teaches both online and at major trade shows. Through her Quilt Block Club and on-demand video courses, she supports quilters of all levels in building their skills and completing projects faster. A former corporate executive turned full-time entrepreneur, Nicole is passionate about making quilting approachable, efficient, and fun.
4. Sarah Ruiz is a quilter and aerospace engineer from Houston, TX. Her creative and technical sides have always been intertwined, from drawing Disney characters and memorizing constellations as a kid to taking humans back to the moon and dreaming up new quilts today. Quilting perfectly combines her engineering and artistic mindsets, and she loves the puzzle-solving required to turn an idea into reality. Her quilts feature bright colors, bold lines, and graphic shapes that are easy to make but pack a visual punch.

1. A Japanese transplant to the Connecticut foothills of the Berkshires, Satomi quilts to express happiness. She looks to nature, her experiences at home and abroad, and the friendships she's developed across the world, as inspiration for her designs. 2. Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill is a designer, quilt pattern publisher, award-winning quilter and educator. As a trained and practicing graphic designer, her quilts start with a concept and research shapes the design. Sheri strives to enhance people’s everyday lives through beautiful meaningful design. Through sharing her work and teaching, she loves to empower and inspire others to enjoy the process of making. Sheri’s quilts have gained international recognition, including awards from QuiltCon, International Quilt Festival, Quilt Week/Paducah and the Modern Quilt Guild. Sheri self-publishes and distributes her quilt patterns, which can be found at quilt shops worldwide and online. She enjoys giving presentations and teaching nationally.
3. Toad & Sew is the modern quilt pattern brand created by Taylor Krz, an illustrator and graphic designer based in Seattle, WA. With a background in the arts and a love for bold, geometric design, Taylor brings a fresh perspective to quilting—combining graphic shapes, intentional color palettes, and approachable construction.
What started as a creative outlet quickly turned into a passion for designing patterns that feel both playful and modern. The name Toad & Sew is inspired by her rescue pup, Toad, who’s been part of the journey since day one.
4. Yvonne is a technical writer by day and modern quilter and quilt pattern designer by night. She was introduced to quilting by her paternal grandmother in high school when her grandmother offered to hand quilt a twin-size quilt to use in her college dorm room if Yvonne made the quilt top. Yvonne has developed a style that bridges her technical background and love of color, specializing in curves, transparency color play, and bold, geometric designs. Her award winning quilts, which have been featured in numerous national and international magazines, quilt shows, and books, often incorporate the quilting plan as a key design element, and she quilts her quilts on her domestic Juki sewing machine.
